A common understanding of the Christian gospel is that Jesus died to forgive our sins. This is true and good! But it’s not complete. He also intends to wash, cleanse, and purify his people so that they become like him. This process of change is called “sanctification.” And it is a process. Whereas forgiveness of sin is immediate, sanctification takes time. Whereas reconciliation is complete, sanctification is ongoing. Therefore, to be in Christ is to be in a constant process of change.
