“In the first book, O Theophilus, I have dealt with all that Jesus began to do and teach.” So starts Acts, the second volume by Luke, recounting the growth of the Jesus movement from Jerusalem to Rome. The key word is “began.” It implies continuation, as if Jesus is still doing, still teaching. And indeed he is. Jesus didn’t just live and die. He rose from the dead, commissioned his disciples, and ascended to heaven. From there, he continues to direct his mission. In Acts we learn how Jesus still works and what he still wants to teach us.
