Explore the Bible at Home - Week of March 17
Dear Parents, Grandparents, & Guardians,
Our students studied one of Jesus’ many miracles in class on Sunday, March 17. Four friends believed that Jesus could heal their friend who was unable to walk, so they carried their friend to Jesus. When they arrived, the house was brimming with people and they were unable to reach Jesus. But that didn't deter them! They tore a hole in the roof and lowered their friend down into the room with Jesus; Jesus then announced that the man’s sins were forgiven, and Jesus healed his physical impariment, too! The religious leaders were shocked. Only God has the power to forgive sin. They didn’t understand that they were standing in the presence of God the Son. He was Immanuel—God sent to earth to be with us. Continue the discussions begun on Sunday at home this week using the Explore the Bible take-home sheet.

Four Friends, Mark 2:1-12
Jesus traveled to the town of Capernaum. People heard He was there and they gathered. The people came and came until there was not any more room in the house, not even in the doorway. Jesus taught the people.
Four men came to the house carrying a paralyzed man. Because so many people were at the house, the men could not get inside. They came up with another plan. The men carried their friend up to the roof and began to remove the roof above Jesus. Then they lowered their friend on a mat down to Jesus.
Jesus looked at the men and saw their faith. Jesus spoke to the paralyzed man, “Son, your sins are forgiven.”
Some of the religious leaders were in the house to listen to Jesus teach. When they heard Jesus tell the man his sins were forgiven, the men thought, “Why does He say that? Who can forgive sins, except God?” The religious leaders did not understand who Jesus was.
Jesus knew what the men were thinking and he said, “Why are you thinking that? What is easier for me to say, ‘Your sins are forgiven’ or ‘Get up, pick up your mat, and walk’? But I will help you understand that the Son of Man has the authority to forgive sin.” Then Jesus looked at the paralyzed man and said, “Get up, pick up your mat, and go home.”
Immediately the man stood up and left the house. Everyone was shocked and they gave glory to God saying, “We have never seen anything like this!”
