Sanctification

A common understanding of the Christian gospel is that Jesus died to forgive our sins. This is true and good! But it’s not complete. He also intends to wash, cleanse, and purify his people so that they become like him. This process of change is called “sanctification.” And it is a process. Whereas forgiveness of sin is immediate, sanctification takes time. Whereas reconciliation is complete, sanctification is ongoing. Therefore, to be in Christ is to be in a constant process of change. And so the gospel is even better than we often imagine: Jesus forgives us, but he doesn’t leave us as he found us. He changes us! How does this change happen? What is God’s role in it? What is our role in it? We explore those questions in this series.
